Pros

Great benefits, nice campus, good food.

Cons

Things happen very slowly at SAS. I once heard a recruiter describe working in IT as "sleepy". PMO has lost it's focus on supporting it's customers. (Other SAS Business Units). Passive Aggression and Micromanagement are commonplace and supported by upper management.

Pros

Dedicated co-workers (if they’re not driven away) Health insurance Onsite amenities at HQ: healthcare, gym, daycare, cafes Salaries look lower than industry, but in-kind benefits help close the gap

Cons

SAS is really many companies in one-- each division has its own subculture. I can only outline the one division I was in: 1) Cheap, cheap, cheap. CapEx, OpEx, headcount, travel etc 2) Stingy with bonuses and praise 3) Niggardly with raises and promotions 4) Very hard to grow or move within the company 5) Rampant favoritism 6) Though Dr. G is not getting any younger, age discrimination is real Sadly, SAS is “regressing to the mean” as a workplace.

Pros

Company: The company benefits were amazing. The non-SSOD HR representatives were helpful and caring. There is top-notch health care, both the plan and the on-site services. Great day-to-day perks life cafes and gym. SSOD: Not a lot.

Cons

Company: Pay, including raises and bonuses, were lower than I was used to at other non-government jobs. SSOD: There is no work life balance in this division. You're told when you're hired that they're not a 35-hour a week division, but they don't tell you it's routinely nights and weekends, with no work-day time off even when you're called to work for several hours the night before (even 3 AM). Expect minimum 45 hour work weeks, frequent 50+. People are leaving this division in droves for a reason. And while the number of customers is increasing, the number of new/replacement employees is not keeping pace. Sick leave warning: It may say "unlimited" sick leave in the new employee benefits package, but if you take more than 5 days in a year, you'll be verbally counseled. People routinely show up to work obviously sick, and spreading their germs to coworkers. God help you if you need to take FMLA, especially more than once.
