Pros

If you dont need a lot of hours/money, this job is great as you only work as long as you are needed in order to complete the assigned projects. It provides variety, as you are not doing the same thing every week, you work in different areas of the stores, and at least in my area had multiple locations we’d attend to.

Cons

Right off the bat I was warned about the receivers, it seemed like they would always be very short with us. And they would always blame us for things, even when there were items that had long since expired (saw an item that had already expired 6 years prior) which one could blame us but on the other hand, why is it not the store’s fault for actually making sure the store associates paid to work aisles and are there more than a single day a week? Another merchandiser associate and I heard the receiver at one of the locations talking about my work team with another store associate (she worked in wine) in a derogatory manner. Which does absolutely no good if they arent willing to discuss things with us. Overall the one part pf my daily task I dreaded and gave me anxiety, was having to ask the receivers where theyd like me to put things. Management itself absolutely refuses to communicate in anyway except trying to nail you for things. Firstly Ill start with the fact that we had to deal with a string of multiple horrible employees being hired on. Constantly socializing and not working, not understanding the job even though its simpleton things, and one of them was the absolute worst as he basically showed up to be paid to just sit/stand around. He wouldnt listen to our team lead who didnt have the power to let someone go as that was our manager’s responsibility. Who actively did nothing even after multiple attempts of reaching out about the things hes doing like disappearing for half an hour to an hour or more consistently. He got a second job and finally left, I thought he was fired but after my experience I can see exactly what happened. My managers refuse to fire people. I live in Oregon so I am unsure if there is a law or some other reason they try to avoid firing. But I stopped showing up to work for multiple weeks cuz I got a way better job after being ignored begging for more hours so that I wouldnt be evicted and I got absolutely no response. As has been the case since about a month of me working there. It is despicable that these managers whos part of their core responsibilities is to communicate through email, cant be bothered to even send a no. Or to fire someone. I checked my email after my new job expecting an email about being fired, didnt see one lol. One of the top leads in the area discussed with me briefly (when she had came over to help our team), that she was even looking for a new job because the hours they provide are unlivable. Core points: Lack of communication/action taken, Unlivable hours as the only source of income unless you dont pay rent or have major bills monthly, management isnt transparent or seems to care about the teams whatsoever (I guess their campus’ have great amenities, of which none of us merchandisers are told about or probably have access to), overall unless you can climb the power ladder here, I implore you to look elsewhere unless this is your absolute only option or you dont need to care about stable, consistent, reliable, and livable wages.
