Pros

It is no longer GM

Cons

Inept management. Many of the front line managers/supervisors had their start in the rancid U.A.W. local and are incapable of differentiating crap from apple butter. Nepotism runs rampant and the true mission of these morons has degenerated from providing a quality product to merely presenting a facade of concern for productivity and quality. It is all about appearances, and playing out the string. Senior management's continual assault upon employee benefits coupled with broken promises of new work has convinced most that management is incapable of ever telling the truth to its employees. The facilities in Indy are both dirty and antiquated but they make up for this by housing the largest colony of cockroaches known to exist in the northern hemisphere on site. Third world countries have better IT and the majority of the machinery looks like junk found abandoned at curb side.

Pros

The Rolls-Royce Takover Target submitter hit it right. Training is great - they basically have a university with great classes and instructors. The benefits are pretty good. Starting salaries are competitive. They have an interesting product - if you are "into" jet engines. They have a great library and a museum.

Cons

Forget about getting a raise. They are continuing to cut benefits ( the company is bleeding cash - it costs R-R more $$ to make a jet engine than what they sell for). Their suppliers tell R-R what to do. They tell R-R to change their quality specifications (in the supplier's favor) or the supplier will raise their prices. Management beats the heck out of their "underlings" come performance review time (management sets expectations that can't be met - therefore, they have a reason to fire you - in case they want). And the owners, R-R U K, is just look only at the numbers R-R N/A is producing and not the whole picture of what is going on. Very difficult to advance or transfer positions. Cumbersome systems to work with.

Pros

- Friendly employees all around - You can learn a lot if you are pro-active - Interesting R&D projects - One of the most prestigious names in the world, it will shine on your resume!

Cons

- HR is definitely the worst thing about this place - Energy business won't be around for long - Only few (special) people go up, doesn't matter how good you are - Lots of formality and bull* happening that you just have to do
