Strong focus on developing "high potential" plant managers

Pros

Strong focus on safety has improved workplace safety issues. Safety program is "top down" rather than being driven by the workforce.

Cons

Executive management focuses personnel development efforts on young "high potential" employees, who have little or no managerial experience before assuming roles as general managers of departments (mine, smelter, etc.). These individuals also rotate relatively rapidly between plants, and nearly all have strong desires to advance their personal careers. Majority of workforce receives minimal development attention.
