Pros

Fully embraces open-source, open-collaboration, and honest communication. Most other employees are fantastic people, easy to get along with, humble, and always willing to help.

Cons

The company in general does a very poor job of learning from it's own past mistakes. Post-pandemic leadership has been poor, with layoffs then re-hiring for some of the exact same positions. Employee-to-manager ratio is getting worse by the day. Over-payed executives and promotion of narcissists. Engineering teams are under-resourced and over-worked. Company is incredibly stingy when it comes to day-to-day operations, but overly generous with director-level and higher pay and bonuses.

Pros

I had a great manager who practiced the open management culture when I was an account executive.

Cons

The PSE role was sold to me as the best role to develop with at Red Hat. I had a successful Account Executive for 2 years at Red Hat. They said the Account Executive role would soon be phased out. So I accepted the PSE role. There was a poor structure and everyone argued about what my role should be. The margin for our partners was low so they had no interest in working with us. Uncomfortable levels of drinking , men acting like predators around women, territorial behaviors by other women towards women, bullying, and in house promotions due to who you were friends with not based on merit. Poor back office processes. Some team members abusing the good culture at Red Hat and not working at all during company time. It’s a shame as Red Hat had a fantastic culture when Jim Whitehurst was CEO.

Pros

The ability to influence software and make things better for all is everywhere. If you want your job focus to go in a particular direction, you have that ability to guide it there. There is the opportunity to learn a lot. The compensation package is not at industry standard but close enough to accept while you learn.

Cons

Hypocrisy is rampant. SJW mentality is everywhere and influences everything. As simple a thing as not being willing to wave the flag will get you criticized for not joining in to the movement of the day. To focus on actual work, disorganization and lack of process is the normal way of doing things. Departments are heavily silod and no 2 business units work the same. Overall company direction is clear & well done from the very top (which is great) but immediately stops once out of that level. Lower level management does not follow the directions from above and routinely does not do as directed. Trust issues are everywhere with many who are reluctant to act due to distrust of other managers.
