Pros

First of all, it's great to work in open source. Besides that, dev employees usually work remotely, which gives them much freedom. For sure you need discipline, but being allowed to work when and where you want effectively improves productivity (for the company) and satisfaction (of the employee).

Cons

If you work remotely, you need to get used to the way of effectively synchronizing with colleagues, meetings on the phone / hangout / skype. You might end up having your manager in a different timezone and meet him/her in person after years, etc.

Cons

HR processes and hiring need to stay pace with the rest of the industry Too much middle management in people roles that need immediate guidance or help to take the company to the next level
