Pros

Great internal branding. The "Open Organization" ideals sounds fantastic.

Cons

Not all areas of Red Hat have embraced the Open Org ideals equally well. I was in a senior technical role (not my first rodeo). I found multiple barriers to collaboration (amazing!) including silos and protectionism. Advice to job seekers: Look carefully before you leap and trust your gut. Ask difficult questions. If it doesn't smell right, walk away. Possibly consider a different organization within RH.

Pros

Brand name company - looks good on your resume; nice corporate office and amenities, especially for younger employees; free parking; training opportunities

Cons

Inexperienced managers of people; not always strategic in their actions; not open to new ideas; caste system from a structure standpoint

Getting worse every day

Pros

Remote work is good. Tech stack is nice to work on. Some very smart and capable engineering teams.

Cons

Bad management and leadership is going to be the death of this company. There are almost zero opportunities for promotion now for staff who have been there for years, and management continually finds ways to make it more confusing and difficult to work towards career progression. Salaries have totally stalled out - they released salary ranges for different roles and just about everyone is in the lower or middle range regardless of performance. Raises aren't keeping up with the cost of living, and more and more responsibilities are added to roles with nothing given to employees in return. Many good people are looking for opportunities outside the company or have already left, a lot of those left are lazy or incompetent.
