Pros

Raytheon has some very interesting projects to work on if you can wait a year or so for security clearances to start coming in. The work can be highly technical and there are opportunities to publish or patent ideas, which the company rewards monetarily.

Cons

The downside is that because the projects are classified, groups within the company are isolated and the opportunities for expanding your network are limited. Promotions seem to occur automatically every other year until you become an E3 or E4 then it becomes competitive with other people in your group and even if you are filling the role of an E5 or E6, you will not be promoted unless there are fewer people at that level in your section and you are outperforming them.

Pros

Encourages workforce diversity Great starting job for young recruits out of college Competitive pay and benefits Support continuous education/tuition reimbursement The company rules with a sharp pencil which keeps it afloat

Cons

Bottom Line approach to management by middle level managers breeds an environment motivated by fear. The stock price is everything, darn the long term strategic thinking. Decreased DOD funding has negatively affected job growth Certain businesses/business units have decidedly more opportunity and better pay ranges than others, they are not all alike. The company rules with a sharp pencil. If you are good and have been rewarded financially from good evaluations, but your are getting older, they will find nitpick ways to find fault with you and get rid of you so they can hire cheaper younger people or put your job on the backs of those who are left. Legal is very strong. Every decision that involves HR is a legal one made by a team of lawyers. They will run around Orion and back to ensure they don't get sued. This ultimately means that people don't come first and it means you will be asked to do many things that lack any sort of common sense.

Pros

The people are technically excellent and are easy to work with. The pay and benefits are competitive and there is usually interesting and challenging work to do. 9/80 (every other Friday off) schedule and flexible work hours support the “Work Life Balance” that they promote.

Cons

While Raytheon is a great company, their Florida staff is Top Heavy, leaving little room for career advancement. They have been reducing their overall staff for several years now, while still bringing in new grads. They have not won any new business in quite some time.
