Cult Where Designers Go to Die

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Beautiful galleries and products that inspire great design. Current technology and programs are provided for Designers - a collaborative work environment. Coworkers with similar values and work ethic. Good benefits.

Cons

Cult-like redirect that is hammered in on a daily basis. Non-competitive salaries for client-facing employees. Unrealistic workload and no compensation for overtime hours or commissions. Lack of boundaries and no respect for individual's work-life balance by employer and clients. High turnover of Design and Sales Associates. A toxic narrative that if you disagree or find an issue with any of the company's values you are simply "the wrong people" for them.

They don't value people

Pros

The money during busy season is alright

Cons

EVERYTHING, where do I start..... They preach this "values" Koolaid cult propaganda and FORCE you to follow it, but yet management doesn't. Where can I even begin? from employees being guilt-tripped and forced to come into work when they legitimately can't, I had a co-worker who was working in a cast... yes you read that right. They cut the barista's pay and added on more responsibility and management did nothing but joke about it. during the peak of the pandemic they did NOTHING, if you caught covid they either expected you to hide it or come into work, they made you jump through hoops just to get your deserved covid pay for being sick with something you caught working there. They claimed it was to "protect the employee's identity" but they would downplay the numbers and not tell people they came into contact with someone who had covid till days later. some managers and employees would even openly disregard covid calling it a scam and openly bashing employees who were seriously concerned with covid. they took logs of the covid vaccine cards, some managers aren't even vaccinated they need to be audited. they steal tips, they have been sued by 10+ employees ( who WON) all because they were stealing tips from their workers. the craziest thing is that they are still doing it. they change policies like there's no tomorrow, with short notice. The attitude is either accept it or leave. their company motto is "love us or leave us" they legitimately caused a few employees to quit (purposely ) all due to them just not liking them for personal reasons. They consistently ask you to do stuff outside of your pay range and job description and if you don't you get in trouble. I was written up for "Leaving when I was DISMISSED by a manager"?? you are consistently belittled and talked down to. You have to wait to get permission to leave even if it's time to end your scheduled shift. I was fired for not "living and breathing their values" they claim they have no money to give raises but will consistently boast about hitting millions in revenue. They "motivate" by showing you videos of their CEO (god) on his private jet or yacht during the morning meetings. Then belittle you when you aren't showing excitement to be working there. literally, EVERYONE who’s been there for years is just there because of the money, they don't have a way out. The smart ones leave immediately after seeing how this joke of a restaurant is run. it is legitimately a sad and depressing environment, most managers are there because this is their first job making a decent income or because they are too old to transfer somewhere else and became comfortable. What's even worst is that they will tell you openly if you become "friends" with them. I've had managers tell me "just wait" during slow season when they overstaff. They don't care about employees, never have, and never will, its a company that just cares about making money, the turnaround rate is ridiculously high and they don't seem to want to fix it. BUT you’re expected to live and breathe the companies values and act as a slave while working there. DO NOT WORK HERE, if you need to make money then do so on the busy seasons IF that's even worth your mental health.
