Pros

Sexy, high-powered cases. Brilliant coworkers. Constant adrenaline rushes. Lots of opportunity for growth and increased responsibility.

Cons

The internal technology systems are embarrassingly lacking. Support staff is not well-compensated or well-trained. The pressure to constantly hit high billable hours is high. There's a fairly strong divide between the people you substantively work with and the business / HR side. The business side will repeatedly say "this is not a cuddly law firm." They're too focused on short-term billable targets and are willing to stealth lay-off associates if business is slow -- which means as soon as business picks up everyone left is dying. It's very difficult to take a vacation.

Pros

Great responsibility early on and the ability to take control of your case load if you're assertive enough and don't let certain pressures get to you.

Cons

Somewhat unpredictable what management will do because the firm prides itself in being unconventional. This can cause uncertainty and in turn a pressure to overwork, just in case something bad is coming down the pipeline.

Pros

Some of the staff are nice people. Some of the attorneys are OK to work with. Some attorneys are deplorable in how they treat others, staff included.

Cons

The SF office if not a great place to work. Most of the staff are not skilled or properly trained and they try to get away with doing as little legal work as possible. This is largely in part to the lack of effectiveness and incompetence of the administration. Favorites are played and special treatment is shown. This firm truly does not care about paying their staff a living wage, either.
