Pros

Some of the best reason working for Publix Pharmacy is the experience in a field I was interested in. As a technician I became familiar with the role of the Pharmacist and found that standing for 8 to 10 hours a day filling medications was not for me, but I enjoy the nice people and increased my knowledge of pharmaceutical chemistry.

Cons

Some of the cons working for Publix when I did I didn't receive benefits, pay was minimal and the job was monotonous.

Pros

- Excellent retirement benefits for a retail/grocery store ----(elaboration) When fully utilized, the retirement adds up to a great benefit. They give you 8.5% of your salary in Publix stock, and you can contribute up to 10% of your pay into the 401k plan and they will match it up to 3% of your salary up to $750. That means that if you put in 10%, you have a effective savings rate of 21.5%, which is pretty spectacular for building a retirement next egg (especially after reflecting extra gains from the savers credit). - Raises every 6 months can add up to quite a bit over time (once again, excellent wage growth for a retail job) - Flexible and easy to use online schedule mechanism - Amazing job security. You never have to worry about being fired after being on with the company for at least 3-6 months (also a double edged sword, see cons) - Health insurance plans that are open to part timers (after one year) - 8 hours holiday bonus Full-time: - 2 weeks paid vacation, more if you've been with the company for longer - 6 holiday bonuses and a hefty Christmas bonus. It capps out at 128 extra bonus hours after about 2 years of full time.

Cons

- Wait time: Publix will drag its feet to give your the juicy benefits if you are part time. If you work in a harder department (meat, deli, etc) this wait time will feel very unfair as opposed to departments where waiting for a year can be easier. - Job security: it applies to mangers and co-workers that really need a good firing. Its amazing what some people can get away with, and how much tolerance their is for meritocracy, abusive behavior, and inefficiency. - Backward store culture: Many stores, thanks to the job security, have evolved to have some nasty cultures that can drive you crazy. - Fulltime is gold: it is not given out lightly. In fact, it is often never given out at all, no matter how desperately it is needed. This plays in with the previous con, as some backwards store cultures will give full time to people they like, and deny it to others they do not like (regardless of how much work they do to get it).

Cons

Been in the deli for 2 years and haven't learned much if anything at all!! I've learned how some people get away with murder and others kill themselves to get treated like crap!!
