Pros

Used to be a great company before they went public in 2013

Cons

Bros club. Males will have a much better chance of success. No respect for women in a lot of levels/depts. Don't forget your bourbon and cigar. I know what you are thinking, surprising with a woman CEO.. (shocking I know but she also doesn't respect women in the work place.. SAD.) Work life balance is mostly non existent. Claim to be innovative, one of our "values", but I've seen numerous great innovative ideas come about and they are quickly shot down. Current company structure will not work in the long term and company is not evolving fast enough to keep up with business and trends around them. Again lack of innovation. You have to work ridiculous hours and be either a total nut case or jerk to be successful, which is saying a lot since half the staff is a VP or higher. In which 70+% are (mostly caucasian?) males. Need to do some major clean up with leadership. Claim to be an IT company... haven't seen a good IT program yet.. in-house or out that's good. Overall company continues to go downhill... used to be "non profit" or so claimed.. now all they care about is their own bottom line. Need a new mission statement, no longer "Improving the health of the communities"

Pros

Premier does a good job of staying connected to its hospital membership, and delivering what they need. They are meeting their mission of improving healthcare. They provide great heathcare benefits to their employees and the pay meets the national average for this industry. You will learn a lot about the healthcare industry by working here.

Cons

The company used the really care about it's employees and worked hard to build a company culture. Since going public, it been clear that all they care about now it their bottom line. Many employee benefits/resources have been reduced or removed. Employees are all being asked to do more with less and the work life balance is now non existent. Its not uncommon to take work home with you. Communication around the company has always been an area of improvement for Premier but it has gotten to the point that upper management is totally disconnected from the people that work for them. They sit on a different floor and have zero contact with their departments. This has lead to a issues with back-biteing, favortism, employee concerns never being addressed, and major issues being covered up so that upper management doesn't find out. Opportunities for advancement are few and far between. Premier would rather hire externally rather then promote from within. Recently, a coworker described the environment as toxic. This used to be a good company that has slowly deteriorated. This is why so many people are leaving right now.
