Pros

The salary and benefits are good. Option to work 9/80 schedule. Opportunity to work with "like minded" co-workers....if you share their values and mission.

Cons

HR dept is run by a director that hires her friends and is power hungry. They manipulate promotions and give themselves raises. Very political and toxic environment for anyone who is not in the "friends" fold. They have you stop working and call politicians to lobby for women's rights issues. Big waste of taxpayer money.

Pros

Getting to educate diverse populations about comprehensive sexual health, decent benefits, work is meaningful,

Cons

Leadership has some major, major problems. I loved my job and would have stayed forever if it wasn't such a toxic work culture. Upper management were all white women and whenever issues of microaggressions and racism were raised, white woman tears would ensue without any actual action taken to make the workplace feel more inclusive. Some coworkers really tried to do our job and education internally, but the education department was ultimately considered the "problem" instead of any actual accountability taking place. Reproductive justice work is HARD, and this work culture only made it harder. There are also limited chances for upward movement unless leadership decides they like you.

Pros

As an NP, a chance to work with underserved populations, a sense o service. The reason I stayed for 30 + years. My patients were so grateful for the care I gave them.

Cons

Upper Clinical management is toxic! They have no respect for NPs as professionals. They routinely deny lunch breaks. They tell NPs to do things we know are unethical and investigate us if we don't. It's why, with a heavy heart I resigned in October.
