Pros

Great lower level staff members, commitment to mission

Cons

Lack of accountability for management, abusive higher level officials who treat their employees terribly, lack of trust across the organization, no negotiation room for growth (financial or otherwise)

Pros

Amazing, genuine coworkers. Some health and retirement benefits even at part time. Lots of opportunities for advancement and professional development (conferences, etc). You feel like you are making a difference and the staff works to uplift each other and remind each other of that.

Cons

Not a job for someone who wants to "leave work" at the end of the day. You put your heart into working here and it wears on you faster than other places if you do not love it.

Pros

- Really important cause; employees are dedicated to the mission - Highly skilled colleagues - Working here helps your resume a lot if you want to work in sexual and reproductive health - Decent benefits and PTO

Cons

- Lots of hiring from personal networks, which leads to a lack of diversity in many departments - High dependence on expensive consultants for projects/inititiatives instead of growing employee skills, so there is a lot of turnover AND there tends to be a lack of institutional knowledge when creating new projects/initiatives - Dysfunctional management/leadership - Leadership is not held accountable - Management style is fear-based and ego-based - Work-life balance is terrible unless you are a parent, ironically; terrible culture of martyrdom and lack of respect for boundaries and self-care - Oftentimes projects are based on the whims of some senior leaders and staff are not allowed to push back
