Many Words, Little Action

Pros

Work/Life Balance European approach to after hours work and being contacted on vacation Bad compensation and HR that prefers gaslighting employees into thinking they are not underpaid over fixing the issue

Cons

The company is more interested in shoving the next buzzword filled strategy deck down the throats of their employees than actually taking action. The company's obsession with social justice is extremely disingenuous and rings hollow

Pros

Good work/life balance, friendly and warm culture for the most part (very few jerks), opportunity to work on great brands; high level of autonomy once you establish yourself, and fun happy hours and events (pre-pandemic).

Cons

Salaries are significantly under market and high performance is not recognized or rewarded. There is not an emphasis on developing and retaining talent and the leadership has a very traditional "this is just how it is" mindset. There has been a decent amount of turnover in Legal for the same reasons but management does not seem willing to address issues with compensation, morale, and growth potential. The legal culture could be more collaborative and less critical. Volume of work can be high and internal clients do not always respect legal function or fact that they work in a highly regulated industry. Much time is wasted pushing back on basic legal issues. Company can be very disorganized and lacks clear process, though leadership is attempting to change that. It's exciting to see more diversity in leadership and more focus on D&I but at times the public statements can feel performative - would love to see more internal change and for the company to truly walk the walk and train individual employees and hiring managers on D&I. Health care provider (Aetna) regularly denies claims in bad faith for things that clearly are covered and was terrible to deal with.

Pros

Great work/life balance, remote work option Weekly happy hour and product allowance Compensation and bonus structure is OK CEO is a nice guy and very hands-on

Cons

This really should be a fun job, but teams are stuck completing powerpoint presentations and hosting events for internal stakeholders vs. producing killer marketing programs for the actual consumer. Goals/metrics are created out of thin air and unsubstantiated. Politics are at an all time high. I've seen staff actually do great work, but get blackballed because they refuse to share their Instagram handle. Tier II Marketing leaders (Directors/VP) are old-school thinkers and rely heavily on traditional tactics that fail to move product. There's also too much power given to a 30-something year old that has never been accountable for P&L. Speaking of leadership, there's an obvious disregard for diversity among senior staff, brand teams, and distributor partners. Which SUCKS because several brands rely on multicultural consumers to sell product. Growth opportunities are laughable - no clear avenues or benefits for promotion. FREQUENT layoffs (almost yearly) and constant reorgs.
