Pros

-They have a decent benefits package for staff employees (not permalancers, freelancers, or show staff) -Upward mobility really only comes when people leave, but they will often promote from within when that happens. They don't often promote people within their own roles, but if they do it's normally only after 2 years - I was lucky enough to get on a team with upward mobility and into a staff role, and have had been able to take full advantage of my privilege within the company. I am very lucky and had a good experience, but have spent massive amounts of time helping coworkers figure out how to get out of their permalancing/stagnant role. -As far as international media conglomerates go, it's fine and doesn't seem much worse than any of the others, but it is a giant media conglomeration.

Cons

-Self-centered management at every level with no methods of upward feedback. Prioritization and success is always measured by profits and performance, with no acknowledgment of employee satisfaction or retention. -A disgraceful practice of hiring freelancers with the promise of becoming staff (and thus getting healthcare/benefits/days off) and then holding that over people's heads for literal years. -HR is unresponsive, secretive, and only there to protect the company, not actually help employees. -Diversity initiatives and "corporate values" are only embraced after massive employee outrage, and even then still often ignored. Minimal effort is made to actually make and recognize structural changes as opposed to doing just enough so that they don't get sued. -They laid off at least 5% of staff in the last year while giving a raise to the CEO -Single HR representatives are responsible for thousands of people and the corporate structure takes away almost all discretionary power from bosses, so even managers have little to no say in employees' raises and promotions. -Has almost completely offset the costs of working from home this past year to the employees. -People are still leaving due to dissatisfaction even during a global pandemic.

Pros

The people here are fantastic. There is camaraderie and support among assistants and people will go out of their way to help you. You get to be at the forefront of making television and really learn the ins and outs of a huge company.

Cons

Every department has a different culture to it, and your experience really depends on who your department head is. Overall, CBS suffers from the same malady as most of the entertainment industry. In no particular order: they underpay assistants, they don't promote people, diversity is paltry, there was no innovation or willingness to adapt, and there is a HUGE culture of overwork. People played a constant game of who could leave work the latest (even if there was nothing to do) and almost everyone ate lunch at their desks/worked through lunch. I chose to leave the entertainment industry after working here. If it's your absolute dream to make television, maybe it will be worth it to you, but it wasn't worth sacrificing my quality of life anymore.
