In Need of a Culture Shift

Pros

Good people and great brands.

Cons

Lack of strategic focus and leadership. An amalgamation of digital businesses that were acquired and focused on O&O and not content development. This also, unfortunately, has led to a very "bro" culture top down. The environment varies across CBS, but it is one that has a legacy of older and male, making it challenging for female leadership and attracting diverse talent. This is desperately needed in order to remain competitive and more so following the merger.

Lower management at Viacom

Pros

Great place to start in the television industry, if you have the ability to learn quickly and follow instructions, you have a good chance of standing out and impressing a manager.

Cons

Much of the promotion process is based on making an impression on someone who can promote you. This is bad because many of the people in senior director or VP positions are not well trained in management, they are just people who have been in the company long enough to impress a boss or someone who promoted them, or they have played the politics game well enough to climb the ladder.
