Work life balance is great, where you only do overtime when necessary and it is not unreasonable. Great opportunity to try out different technologies and approaches at work.

Cons

There is little hint on career prospects. Job security can be an issue as people can be laid off without warning.

Pros

Some nice people, fun vibe, benefits are ok, have every tool needed for success. If you want to work 9-5(ish) and just kind of drift along, might be good environment.

Cons

No real career opportunities (don't believe recruiters), after talking to other folks it's typical to get stuck in your same position for a long time, lots of pretending/not much actual knowledge. Also, you're going to be at your starting salary (with minimal bumps) for a very long time. Be aware of that.

Great opportunities and benefits, but difficult to rise up within your department

Pros

There are many different career opportunities within the company itself. MTV employees are generally from a very young crowd - in my department, I don't believe anybody is over 40. MTV provides amazing health benefits and employee discounts with a wide range of companies and services. One of my favorite "perks" is the 10k a year tuition reimbursement (tax free until you you go over 5k I think). If you're lucky, you will get to work with a great team of people.

Cons

It is difficult to move up the ladder within your own department. If you are hired on as a freelancer, it may take a while to get a head count approval and get converted to a full-time position even if your manager and boss recognize your value to the team. If you are below manager level, your pay will not be anything nominal.
