Pros

Interesting industry and good technology - some great people

Cons

Not recommended for project managers or programme managers. There is no PMO or central resource management - so you are at the mercy of the division you are hired within. Limited opportunity to move around and no clear career path or project management specific career development... fine if you are contracting however. New CEO is the Michael O'Leary of the gambling industry.... the cost cutting exercise is fairly ruthless. victims so far: Office Fruit All Staff Christmas Party Kids Christmas Party Free Racing Post Office plants!! Free hooded top for new starters passing their probation Staff joining anniversary lunches Online training portal Funding for clubs (running, cycling, wine clubs etc) Betfair used to be a really fun place to work - it was in the top ten places to work about 5/6 years ago (they tell you this when you apply to work there). It hasn't featured in the top 10 since, with good cause. The stock market float has changed the company dramatically.

Pros

One of the leading tech business based in Europe. Multinational business with leading positions in UK, Ireland and Australia. 80% of the business is online, with half of that via mobile. Leading developer of mobile apps, e-commerce apps, online games, and more. A brand that makes people laugh, with products that make life more exciting for millions every week

Cons

In a sector that not everybody has a natural affinity for - betting - which suffers from middle class prejudice in Europe and is outright illegal in the USA

Pros

The people are generally high-calibre, the salary's generous, there's some chewy technical challenges, and there's room to work on many different projects.

Cons

The projects are generally dull and prone to death-march schedules. There's constant layoffs, reshuffles and quiet removals of key political players: it's like working with Macbeth, but with a higher body count. For example, the web development team has been gutted of talent within six months by chronic mismanagement and cost-cutting. The office is in a dull location, too.
