Pros

Good people up to Head of departments Good technical opportunities Challenging projects Future could be very exciting with some of the plans muted Colleague Engagement program Starting to get to grips with the fiscal management at last.

Cons

Seem to still operate as a start up in some areas after over a decade, not good. A lot of financial waste A lot of politics in nearly everything. Head of department management style challenging to say the least Decision making made by technically bankrupt management Projects poorly specified and badly resourced Lip service to engagement in some areas Seem to have started a cycle of annual rationalisations No real career development , no mentoring programs either.

Pros

Good people, challenging work place that pushes you and who wouldn't want to work in an office with sports playing 24/7 on huge wall mounted tv's.

Cons

I never really had any downsides working at Betfair. Management changed around a bit whilst I was there but that's because it's a fast growing company so if you don't like change....

Pros

I have a challenging work and technically is very satisfying, most of the people I've worked with are extremely smart. The technology and applications are the best and the newest.

Cons

In few years Betfair grow from a small informal company to an international middle-size without any type of control, chaos is normal (when you believe it's settling down they introduce a drastic change) and there is a general reluctancy to follow processes and take accountability. This is the first place I've worked where there is no organisational chart at all, you have to find out who are you supposed to work with and keep informed by asking colleagues, having coffees and using informal communications which is extremly frustrating, inefficient and useless. The recent cost reductions have had a negative impact on people's engagement & motivation, when I joined everyone was really proud to be part of Betfair. Unfortunately they lost that sense of community that was so appealling and that made Betfair a great place to work.
