Pros

Established company with a lot of stability, good employee benefits. Oracle is a dominant player in its core areas despite threats from SAP and growing MySQL threat.

Cons

Not very innovative. It can be hard to change the direction of projects and many middleware projects seem doomed to fail or has very little potential for impact. Currently Oracle is hard to beat because it has many existing clients who are too lazy to switch to other products but eventually people will switch to superior products. You cannot simply fight SAP with aggressive salespeople. Too much acquisition can cause indigestion. There are many clients frustrated by the lack of integration between Oracle's products.

Pros

knowledge, knowledge, knowledge. soak it in, build your resume, it will become solid gold. the information you can learn from many many competent colleagues and the plethora of learning material is really pretty amazing.

Cons

unexpected lay-offs at any time, difficult career movement. Lots of older professionals who aren't ever going to be CEO's.

Pros

Reputational company that opens doors for opportunities at other companies. Access to comprehensive technology and experience in various industries, so this helps in building your resume.

Cons

Professional Service in Oracle has limited career upside. Unless you are at HQ, or have ability to network extensively with managers (higher ups) you will not have any visibility. This is especially true for field consultants, no relationship with others except via email and occasional vmail with your practice manager. Also, consulting model within Oracle is moving to offshore/onshore where majority of consultants are remote-based, or imported on a rotational basis into US for work. This means that the US based consultants reduced to team lead aspects, with majority of consultants from overseas oracle divisions.
