Pros

As a good patriotic company, Northrop Grumman will cover your pay for jury duty and they pay 6 weeks salary if you have a child (for mother and father). My experience is that Northrop Grumman tries to produce high quality work rather than just enough to get a contract and move on. This results in a lot of repeat business, so even as a contractor, you can get very long term employment with the same department. My immediate management has done a good job at taking care of me and they are good at minimizing office politics. All in all, I found working for Northrop Grumman to be a positive experience.

Cons

I feel that my salary is a little week. Also, as I work on site for the federal government, I am subject to the high levels of insanity that come with the job. Often I feel like one of the office clerks in the movie 'Brazil', but this is not a direct result of working for Northrop Grumman, but rather working for the feds.

Pros

It is a safe and secure environment to work. With a security clearance it is almost impossible to be laid off. Compensation is around market and the benefits are great. You will get in at 8 and leave at 4:42... (seriously, you have 42 minute lunches in parts of NGC)

Cons

The skills learned there tend to be niche within the aerospace industry. So you tend to get pigeonholed into aerospace because the skills are non-transferable. Also pay increases are not really performance based. You will get between 3-5% a year even if you get a spectacular review. You have to threaten to leave or transfer within the company to get a significant bump in pay.

Pros

Space Park has a flexible work schedule. The 9/80 schedule means employees work 80 hours over 9 working days instead of the standard 10 days. This allows every other Friday to be an off-Friday giving employees 3-day weekends every other weekend. Also, there is an option to telework on a regular, part-time, or ad-hoc basis. Everyone is allowed to telework if their job responsibilities can still be performed and they have manager approval.

Cons

Northrop Grumman is a big company so it has the big company mentality. In terms of engineering, there is a focus on modifying successful designs from the past rather than creating new, innovative designs for the future.
