Mismanaged and in danger

Pros

A well known and well-heeled firm that pays competitively when they are trying to recruit you and been on an M&A tear over the last 5 years.

Cons

New structure and management are driving the firm into the ground. Infighting and greed from the top down are resulting in a terrible environment lead by people more worried about quarterly guidance, stock price, and personal exit strategies than building a better brokerage.

Pros

Management treats employees with respect and dignity. You think this would be a given, but A LOT of companies don't. If you get your work done, no one is bothering you. As a result they have high retention/ low turnover, so as a new person, you can get lots of help and training from the more senior people, some of whom have been there for 15-20 years. I think this also translates to stability and consistency for the customer-facing aspect of the business. Benefits are pretty competitive for this size company. 2 weeks paid vacation to start plus floating holidays and sick time and other special considerations for maternity leave and even care-giving.

Cons

A lot of the workload is busywork. This is not the fault of the company, but of the clients. They all want things done in certain arcane ways, so there is a lot of redundancy and duplication of work (and so much printing!). Of course, everything is all due at the same time, so you have this big crunch at the first and last weeks of the month, and a lot of downtime in the middle weeks. Oh, and no 401(k) match which is kind of odd for a company this size.

Pros

They talk a good game and throw a lot of money around when they are trying to recruit you.

Cons

Everything takes forever then they don't honor their agreements. HR is not your friend and will not help you when you need it. Look at the pending lawsuits against them (and their related entities), how they have treated whistle blowers, and the best indicator of all is the sliding stock price. You would be much better off at CBRE, JLL, or even Colliers. Don't trust them.
