Pros

Slow paced hence the work life balance. Good in technical growth. Good facilities like cafeteria, gym and car park.

Cons

Office politics, Favoritism from top to bottom management, Low salary growth. Not much on travel and promotion opportunity. MNC Brand with a typical local (Malaysia) style of management.

Pros

The camaraderie is great. You get to work with managers who are mostly transparent and honest. There is challenging work most of the times. Most of the senior people get to visit and interact with NIC developers at least once a year, this is a great learning experience. The new CEO seems to be making right moves, by investing in areas which can bring in money. There is a new structure for pay raises, I’m still on the fence whether it’s going to be good.

Cons

The work at NIB can get to be pretty much “do what NIC says”. All important decisions happen at NIC, so I find myself questioning my stay at NIB for longer. If I want to learn more going forward, I feel like I should leave NI. There are long phases of bug fixing, during which time most developers were quite frustrated. Profit sharing is pretty bad, even with the new formula. When the company makes record revenue in a year, you expect something decent.

Pros

If you are a software engineer fresh out of school, you will learn a lot starting your career at NI. They expect a lot out of you, and you will get plenty of opportunities if you are willing. You will get to work on a bunch of different stuff and learn a lot. The workplace is relaxed and friendly. The work schedule is fairly flexible; that is really nice if you have kids.

Cons

Salary has been stagnant compare to rest of software industry. Lack of performance based bonus does not encourage one to perform better. Letting under-performing employees stayed too long on the job and getting paid as much as over-performing employee just because of tenure hurts morale.
