Pros

This is a very good place to start a career. You get to network and talk with a lot of engineers from many different backgrounds. There are also a lot of young talented people in the company that you get to hang out with after work. Certain projects at NI that you get to work on is very rewarding.

Cons

At times it really feels like you're in a cult. There are employees in the company that seriously thinks that National Instruments is the best company in the world. Although NI is a very good company to work for, it also has its own issues. Occasionally, I believe that NI can be way too frugal on expenses.

Pros

National Instruments is a fun, relaxed workplace. People frequently come in wearing shorts and flipflops and it's easy to make your schedule flexible. Management is normally pretty open to feedback, and it's definitely possible to move around (laterally) within the company to try different things. It's easy to get some fantastic, resume building experience in a short period of time.

Cons

With such a flat organization, it can be difficult to make significant career advances. Salaries also don't increase quite as fast as some competitors. NI is looking for people who are passionate about its culture and products - and those people typically work for less.

Pros

Interesting technology, very smart people.

Cons

Some first-line and middle managers have learned that the way to get ahead is to: 1) Assign your work to an underling so you can spend all your time sucking up to your boss; 2) Take all the credit for your team members' accomplishments; and 3) Have someone to throw under the bus when something goes wrong.
