Pros

Great coverage across ITC, managed services, cloud, solutions, communications. Potential for international engagement through the global NEC organisation. Increasing name recognition through their marketing.

Cons

Very poor management across the IT Solutions business. Constant reorganisations and not leveraging internal capability and experience when reorganising. Some parts of the business are too focused on short term profit at the expense of the long term strategic opportunity.

Its a museum of incompetent managers in NEC IT

Pros

Technical 'resources'(not humans or employees) are the only good thing NEC IT has.

Cons

Incompetent managers survive by leeching technically good people and scaring not so good people. They suppress the subordinates psychologically and make sure annual reviews demotivate them so they neither expect pay raise nor recommendation therefore bend down and continue their servitude to their bosses. No respect for employees. No matter how critical or important an employee is to the project or client, he or she will be treated unimportant and will be made to feel that way all the time. Also people at manager level form their own circles of incompetence where they support each other and scratch each others back and cover up for one another and do not let qualified or competent people come up. They praise one another in meetings and force themselves as managers whenever new opportunities come up. They are always conniving on who to make redundant expecially the good resources who they are afraid of or they feel are expensive to the company. They make their reports spy on one another. As long as a resource is billable(or milkable) things go on some way or the other. The moment the resource becomes non billable then she or he should quit to save dignity. You will see more managers per billable capita compared to any other organization, decent or otherwise. The technical people do not feel secure in their jobs and are looking for opportunities elsewhere most of the time. What I mentioned here pertains to NEC IT solutions oracle practice. I was in this organization for almost 3 years then gave up.

Not a happy place

Pros

NEC offers a mix of research and development. Some groups may be more focused on business needs and thus spend most of their time on development.

Cons

- High turn around rate. People rarely stay more than 2 years. Initially people may be attracted by the research (or R&D) but soon realize that this is not a very productive research environment. - If you group is controlled by manager who is completely incompetent, it will stifle all progress or research. Can't generalize this to all groups, but I have seen similar things happen more often than not. - Senior management (essentially Roger) although nice, is practically useless. - Not much collaboration is going on. - The culture is quite backwardish, for example, working on weekends is praised, it is apparently acceptable to scold or shame employees, long and useless meetings are held in which the manager (or occasionally Roger) talk endlessly. - Not much (not any!) growth opportunities. - Pay is not competitive for full-time employees.
