Short-term thinking and lack of decision-making undermined the culture. Constant re-organization (and splitting the company into smaller and smaller niches). Management embraced an innovation culture, without understanding it. Afraid of being an 800 lb gorilla (that dominated their market spaces), they sought to become more silicon valley, without understanding the strengths of the former and the pitfalls in the latter. As Motorola imploded, the people left standing were the ones hoping to ride it out to retirement, or very good at a) powerpoint, and b) clearing things off their daily to-do lists without regard to the real impacts. Politics, influence, and in-fighting took over.

The long-term prospects for this company are grim. 4G and 5G technology is destined to become so far-reaching that a 2-way radio will be a thing of the past in less than 10 years.
