Pros

I guess it's better than working fast food, and the job is relatively simple enough that an illiterate can get by for many years working there.

Cons

-When I was first hired I was making 7.15. Every year Modell's gives an annual raise of 15 cents. Each time min. wage went up I was working almost to the same exact pay as a new person that I would even help train. It then got ridiculous to the fact that when earlier this year(2014) min. wage went up to 8.25. I was now getting equal pay as everybody else. Do you realize how humiliating that is to work at a place for 5+ years and get nothing for it?! -Forget about raises if you're a hard worker that's not happening at this place even if a manager recommends it to upper management. Modells just is very cheap! There is no growth opportunities unless you wanna work 40hrs making 10 bucks an hour as a department manager. If so, go ahead and slave away. -Their expectations for themselves are hilarious. Opening on Thanksgiving Day thinking they can compete with retail heavy hitters like Walmart, and Target. - No commission for sales although they sure do want you to have that salesman mentality. - This job for many high school/colledge students is a part time job looking to make some extra cash while they study. How any manager could pressure, and expect some sort of full time commitment is insulting especially considering the above mentioned frustrations with recognition, and pay. I'm not saying all the managers I had throughout the years were like this as most did understand, and respect my studies. I was even encouraged by a great manager to continue my studies and not make retail my life. That doesn't discourage that a standard of work rate should be satisfied, but that's up to management to set that standard. Other managers want to load me with close to 40hrs, and add much unneeded stress to my life. -In the summertime having to stand out in 90 degree weather for sidewalk sales. How inhumane! -Garbage union that won't protect you, and only will take money from your check every week. Union dues have consistently gone up, and you can't opt out of being in the union. - Oh yeah! and the Mos Cheer while for one is just plain stupid, it's also a violation of one of Modell's core values which is "I" for Integrity. It's a lie that in Modell's mind associates are number one as the cheer states.
