Pros

Metlife is one is the strongest insurance company out there that offers a wide range of products for its sales force. Its whole life life insurance, and annuities products are a couple of the best selling products with competitive pricing. As a financial service rep you will also receive significant trainings on the job, and the company cover all costs for 2 and a half years while you develop the client base. The pay scale and benefits I believe is slightly higher than its competitors, but only if you are a top producer. Overall, it is a great company to work for if you are an outgoing person with interpersonal and sales skills. Your compensation is technically unlimited if you are a top producer.

Cons

However, do choose your firm/branch wisely, because all firms/branches are managed separately by their own Managing Director. Some MDs only cares about production and nothing else, so make sure you speak to the MDs and get a feeling of how the branch is run before accepting an offer. Most MDs do not have advanced degrees. They merely had great production as a producer and eventually received the promotion to agency sales directors then to MDs. These people do not have the management skills. They don't care about their producers. All they care is the production that you are bringing in. Turnover rate is very high in this industry since most people can't survive after a while.

Pros

There are opportunities to work on a number of different projects and gain vast experience. The learning and developement here is also impressive. Classes are offered on campus and online that allow you to learn more about your job and how to perform at a higher level. The benefits are fantastic, great health coverage and a decent 401(k).

Cons

The beuracracy can get in the way of doing things effeciently. Business and IT occassionally have conflicting priorities that causes a lot of tension. There is currently a program called "operational excellence" which, in short, is the act of removing a member of a team and giving their responsibilities to whoever is still left (no change in pay for those individuals). This causes decreased moral and overall less satisfying work life.
