Pros

New Cary campus is nice Compensation is above average for the area

Cons

IT practices are very immature and there is a general lack of IT professionalism Over emphasis on IT cost reduction results in poorly implemented outsourcing partnerships, poor quality, reactive management, chaotic priority shifts, low morale, high employee turnover Deeply engrained “old school” management culture, with excessive politics and “boys club” mentality Departmental silos and politics make it nearly impossible to implement solutions or process improvements Low maturity, slow pace, poor leadership and legacy technology will cause your skills\experiences\value\marketability to erode throughout your tenure

Pros

Bonuses each March , good healthcare benefits and a 401K match, pension if you stay for 5 years, onsite gym, nice office if you are in one of the major cities, esp. the home office, and a slight interest in diveristy and inclusion ( they are SLOWLY getting better, which is something that should be noted because they dont 'have to be'....)

Cons

Mgmt. is very old. And by old, I mean almost everyone at the Director or above level has been at Met for 15+ years. This is an issue. Why? Some managers are stuck thinking this is still a mutual company and "Mother Met" is still a thing. "Mother Met" is not still a thing. Snoopy is not still a thing. A ton, and I mean, ton of meetings to make sure you are relevant to your boss is outdated and is no longer 'the thing' at successful companies. These things waste time. They cause issues. Some VPs who have been here for a while dont even have direct reports. Many VPs use their direct reports to do the dirty work for them while not promoting them ( you know, so they can continue to do their dirty work for them) What a waste of money....money they could spend on innovation, tech upgrades and younger talent.

Pros

Lovey building, great coworkers, good pay

Cons

Don't know where to start, I think the number of employees leaving or looking says a lot. Projects are a death march employees and contractors in our department work nights weekends and holidays. Upper Mangment serves as task mangers rather than managing. True effort to complete projects is not captured so estimated time is never enough. Vendodor teams are switched mid project making subject matter experts non existent. Full time employees were laid of and forced to reapply a small number of positions and the rest of positions were filled by contractors. Ratings are given on a curve hard work and excessive hours are not compensated and first line mangers have no time to help with caree path. Culture is toxic and employees and vendors are unhappy and overworked.
