Merck's a good company to work for, but job satisfaction seems low and the future for pharma reps is in question.

Pros

Merck has good products to sell, provides decent sales resources, good people to work with, and provides competitive pay and benefits

Cons

For me, selling pharmaceuticals didn't bring much satisfaction. There have historically been too many reps, and doctors don't have time to see them apart from occasional lunches. Morale among reps is low. I don't see a secure future as a pharma rep.

Salary is competitive. Relatively stress free. Easy commute. Managers are open to flexible and alternative schedules, if needed. Enjoyed working there

Cons

Somewhat worrysome job security in light of the Vioxx recall of a few years ago. Vacation days are kept to a minimum

Compensation plan attempts to reward achievers, but many times did not. Sales teams compared to others with different product lineups.
