      Merck does not allow exempt employees without degrees.

      Pros

      If you fit within the guidelines of what the company feels is important to it's success you can succeed and grow. As an employee you receive good salary and benefits. When you are laid off the company provides a good severance package.

      Cons

      The company is very institutionalized and you must follow their structure. Some managers use this to restrict the behavior of their employee's which restricts creativity.

      A terrible company

      Pros

      Salary is not that bad. The corporate office (based in the States) is very forward looking and appears to be professionally managed.

      Cons

      However, the UK affiliate and its senior management was a disaster (till end of 2009). I hear that the new management is slightly better. But some of the old rotten apples are still hanging on in the leadership team.
