Pros

There are some very good people who work at Merck. It depends on the organization. The company sub-cultures offer respite from the arrogance. You can work from home provided you receive permission.

Cons

Internal competitiveness which becomes destructive at times, under the guise of performance management. Bullying by managers is tolerated if not encouraged.

Pros

Work/life balance is great. No real schedule as long as you get your work done. Not a high pressure environment; in fact, you sometimes wonder if they'd notice if you didn't come in. Contractor pay is better than average, if you negotiate.

Cons

They will tease you with the possibility of a full-time job during your interview but that never comes. The company is under a "hiring freeze," however certain departments are always allowed to bring on full timers. Lack of communication with company direction and future needs and opportunities.
