Pros

Mercer provides a strong support network for professional development and career advancement. The people are wonderful to work with and the firm has a very entreprenuerial feel. This is a great place to be to become a benefits specialist. As a leader in the HR consulting arena, the Mercer name opens many doors and gives tremendous credibility to your expertise.

Cons

The firm is large and segmented. Trying to work across businesses can be difficult which limits the availability of broad experiences. The practices are all very different.

Pros

In my business group within Mercer, I experience a challenging, fun, fast-paced work environment. I have great flexibility in my work/life balance including opportunities to work from home, adjust my work-hours as necessary, etc. On the flip side, I work a lot - many hours - but it's work that I truly enjoy, so for me, it's great. My direct team and supervisor are outstanding and the whole experience has been great for me.

Cons

Other business groups within Mercer can be quite bureaucratic and "stiff". I do know a number of employees in those groups who are quite satisfied in that environment, but I wouldn't be.

Pros

Mercer is a place where you can balance your work and personal life fairly easily. There will not be many weeks where you work more than 40 hours. The people are smart and helpful for the most part. It is nice to mix with with MBAs and PHDs each day. Make sure you take the time to research the business unit before you take the job. There are some unique groups and a good fit is essential. Overall its a great place to work and there will be plenty of time to play, especially with coworkers.

Cons

Its a big company, so know what you want.
