Pros

Mercer is a great leader in the industry and it is a great place to launch your career. The people at this place are incredibly talented. It's a great group.

Cons

Unbalanced hours, unpredictable workflow due poor project management. Mediocre pay. Below industry standard vacation days. Poor rewards package for lower level employees. Little respect for work life balance. Management is billable hour obsessed. We are being tied down to million processes (some efficient, some outdated) that are already in place. High turnover makes workflow difficult to manage. Poor knowledge sharing skills.

Pros

I worked with Mercer HR, which is now just Mercer. Overall I would say the perks are an outstanding reputation. Access to different types of clients, variety of industries including not for profit. Most people that left seemed to get into top graduate schools.

Cons

Lack of feedback. People went to your supervisor if they had a problem with something rather than come to you. The office I worked in was dominated by a single school. Easy to feel like an outsider. My office was atypical in that some of the analysts were super competitive and unwilling to help others. The work could get repetitive, although I was just an intern maybe it is better as a full time analyst.

Pros

Some of the great reasons to work for Mercer include the professional environment, best in class reputation in the HR space, exposure to high-profile clients, and most of all, smart people. Overall, experience has been very positive.

Cons

Teamwork dimishes as economy declines. Overall, though, there's no better consulting employer. They're focused more on results than pedigree, and in turn, deliver higher quality work. Bonus potential is too sales driven for principles, and too billable hours driven for senior associates/associates. There used to be more of a focus on intellectual property contributions.
