Pros

Great co-workers and upbeat environment.

Cons

There is absolutely no communication from Supervisors. They do nothing to enhance the benefit counselors performance. If questions are asked by anyone in a meeting you are quickly shutdown. If a problem did come up and supervisors say that they will look into it, they never do. Same problem exists the next day and someone would bring it up again and they are shutdown. Eventually, co-workers just give up asking and continue what they may have been doing, even if its wrong. By reading other reviews here on Glassdoor, I see that Mercer responds saying they will look into it, but obviously they are not because the same complaints as other reviewers have mention, still exist.

Pros

Mercer was an excellent place to get involved in the insurance industry. They pay for your health and life insurance exams and the first few weeks are dedicated to studying. Most places will tell you to buy the book and take the exam on your own, unpaid. You receive in-depth training to prepare you for your role and will receive many coaching sessions to let you know what you are doing well and what needs to be improved on your calls. Management is very supportive and care about your success. As long as you put in effort and are willing to learn, this is a great opportunity. Salary is more than fair, and job comes with benefits and paid vacation.

Cons

Steep learning curve and takes time to become proficient, but is very rewarding. Sometimes you may get a call last minute and you will have to stay beyond your regular hours, but the job is paid hourly despite having a salary so you will be compensated.
