Pros

I have had really mixed experiences working for Mecca. I started as a 'Summer Host' (Christmas Casual) and absolutely fell in love with it. I progressed to a permanent member and then was promoted to a Colour Specialist. They provided all my training and upskilling. There is often upskilling for all members and specialisations. There are good benefits such as the 40% discount and heaps of free product (although this varies store to store). Working here part time (1-2 shifts a week) as a uni student I absolutely loved it. I think it is such a good part time job while you're studying.

Cons

Working at Mecca is like being part of a cult a bit though. The managers absolutely eat, live, breathe Mecca and the company can do no wrong. You are also constantly dealing with really frustrating customers, especially as a colour specialist, there's no pleasing everyone and sometimes makeup applications go very wrong due to a difficult customer and/or miscommunication. Working part-time is a whole different job to working full time. The minute I went from part time to full time, all the novelty wore off and it just became boring and frustrating. I remember being so excited to go to work when I was part-time and now I dread it. All my full time co-workers warned me against going full time because they felt the same but I didn't listen because I loved the job so much I didn't think I would ever get sick of it. Well, I did and I would really recommend against working full time there. Unless you want to get into management or the support centre. Even then, there is such an obvious favourites game at Mecca. I've seen countless cases of people being really hard workers, perfect fits for jobs and promotions and they will get denied based on age and favouritism. E.g my co-worker who had been there for 2+ years, well respected in the team, lovely girl, had good authority and was the go-to person for every question was turned down a zone manager position over a new worker who had been there for 2 weeks because she was in her 20's and the new coworker was in her 40's.
