As a former member of the IT department, one of the most significant challenges I experienced was persistent miscommunication within management. There was a noticeable disconnect between IT leadership and the teams executing the work. Expectations were often unclear, requirements changed without proper documentation, and decisions were communicated inconsistently. This led to rework, missed deadlines, and unnecessary frustration across teams. Additionally, several management roles appeared to be filled by individuals who lacked either the technical depth or leadership experience required for the position. In some cases, managers struggled to understand the technical complexity of projects, yet were responsible for setting timelines and priorities. This frequently resulted in unrealistic expectations and poor planning. Strong IT departments require technically competent leadership, structured communication processes, and accountability at all levels. Without these foundations, even capable teams struggle to succeed.
