Pros

A friendly group of people within the IT department. Disney park passes and discounts off Disney merchandise. A profitable company so there's no shortage of work.

Cons

Unfortunately, the company no longer offers perks such as stock options or a decent medical plan. The office is crowded, they offer no amenities like free coffee or water and there aren't enough stalls in the bathrooms during bathroom rush hour. The management doesn't promote internal career development and quickly hires externally. Compensation is low for this industry, especially for such a successful company and getting a promotion is very difficult. People stay because the work is steady but they are very displeased with the type of work and the lack of growth. There are too many managers and not enough developers to do all of the work. If you speak up, it isn't received with a positive view. If you're looking for a place where you can gain solid software development skills, this is not the place. The type of work that's available is more along the lines of application programming and not enterprise application development.

Pros

Marvel has great IP. And the people you work with on an every day basis are usually pretty nice people.

Cons

Unfortunately, there are also some pretty awful people who they keep around despite knowing how poorly they treat their co-workers. There is also almost no opportunity for vertical movement in the company. There is a small group of executives who run everything and treat everyone else like replaceable cogs. The offices are archaic, They often shove three people into one room, but then have an office twice the size filled with boxes of samples. They don't even provide you with office supplies. It doesn't really feel like you're viewed as a person, and if you speak out of turn, or don't walk the company line, they will get rid of you. Everyone knows this, and everyone is afraid of getting on the wrong side of those people. It's a culture of fear built intentionally by the CEO and his cronies.

Pros

Frankly the main, and only reason, to work there is to work with the amazing IP. Really fantastic and deep pool of fiction. Also, since Marvel is on top, everyone wants to work with you and wants to PAY you to do this. Really like being in the catbird seat.

Cons

I worked there three years and was essentially fired/laid off due to a NY HQ EVP (political play). All power in this company resides in NY and there is a small group of Executives there that control the show...even with TV and Film. These Executives are not your friends and have no interest in your growth or happiness. You will be viewed as a 'means to an end'. I've seen quality and loyal (5-10 yrs for service) fired because of the NY cabal - not agreeing with their dictates. Oh, and don't expect any of those Disney perks at Marvel. Marvel is a notoriously cheap and frugal (even with their billions in profits) company. Again with the NY management team's perview...you should be happy you have a job.
