Pros

The purpose of my review is mostly to focus on salary increases at Marsh. I will preface my comments by saying that I enjoy my job, mostly because of the people I work with. I've also been given opportunities to advance in the company, which has made it worth my while to stay here. Marsh employees will know that meeting expectations is associated with obtaining a "3" performance rating at the end of year review. In my time working for a subsidiary of this company, I have rated between 3 and 5, regularly meeting and exceeding expectations. In any given year, the highest salary increase I've had was 2%, and in every instance, was well below the national average. Although it is possible to start off with a salary that is competitive at Marsh, over time, one is at a disadvantage salary-wise.

Cons

To reiterate, salaries can be competitive and opportunities available if you with hard. However, salary increases tend to be very small year to year.

Pros

Marsh has established itself as a powerhouse in the marketplace. People recognize that and they can use that leverage to their benefit. The culture and company values are great. The company really cares about their people, and it is always priority number one. Leadership is the best in the business, and they are always looking to better the company, their employees, and grow. There is also lots of potential to move laterally into many different sectors of the company if you do your due diligence.

Cons

If you are in an entry-level position, the compensation and time off are not ideal. However, you know what you are getting into. It takes a little longer than expected to move into a promotion or another role in the company. Everything at this company takes awhile to gain movement, as in they are slow to make decisions.

Pros

Great exposure and tremendous networking opportunities along with high profile clients.

Cons

No room for promoting within. It's definitely a "good ole boy" networking hierarchy. Yearly raises are minimal and hard work is not appreciated by management. If your manager likes you then be or she will fight for you at review time...if not, then you're screwed.
