Pros

Fun work environment, family values in their Select Service hotels, good for employees who don't like to sit at a desk all day. Great benefits (401k, healthcare, hotel discounts). A lot of vacation time. The Marriott family is THE BEST. Mr. Marriott still travels around to hotels each year, and I've had a few opportunities to meet him and his family. Good place to work as a line-level associate since there's great recognition programs and associate appreciation in place. Good training when they're willing to pay for it.

Cons

Not so much a good place to work for lower- or mid-level operations managers. The pay is very low for the amount of work we have to put in. Mid-level management does not get the recognition we should. Harder to advance than they tell you unless you have connections or play into the company politics. Also when you are unwilling to give up a work-life balance. After working 10 years for this company (and advancing from an hourly associate to a mid-level manager), I can see this company is starting to care more about money than the family-culture they preach about. Often hotels will cut out training for their managers for cost-savings.

Pros

Lots of opportunities for training, and the ability to work remotely

Cons

Beware if your area is not in their core business of hospitality, because you will be in danger of getting outsourced.

Pros

Cheap hotel deals, when available, are a great benefit (only for permanent employees). Comfortable office building. Tries to be green, if you like that kind of stuff. Traces of corporate loyalty remain, but that's changing fast, so hurry up to enjoy it. They have money to burn on nice HQ facilities, which is nice for us who are there. Company makes good profits, so great bennies and pay for upper management if that's where you're looking to work.

Cons

IT outsourcing is well underway. Beware if you are IT contracting; they might tell you it's "just a re-org", but IT employees are being rebadged with outsourcers later this year, or (mostly) just sacked, with only a handful left to oversee the outsourced services, and IT contractors have no idea what's coming. Outside of IT, seems OK, so long as you watch for the next benefit cut; they do this to some random thing every year or so. Other IT shops in DC Metro often pay much better. Absolutely, totally would never recommend this place right now to an IT friend unless s/he is desperate and willing to work a rapacious contract but with an unknown future.
