Pros

There are chances for growth within the company and there are some young, fun employees.

Cons

I worked here for a very brief time and during this time I noticed a huge divide between the producer area and the first floor creatives area. The producers and management treated most as beneath them and replaceable. Client services was put to such a high level that it created a toxic environment for the lower level workers as well as the producers themselves. The artists downstairs were more down to earth, but were often overshadowed by the egos of the producers and upper-level management. I also noticed a significant amount of employee turnover even for the brief period that I was there, I'm assuming due to the same reason why I left, a disturbingly toxic, dysfunctional work environment.

Pros

free soda, big shows, very low skill requirements.

Cons

So if you want to work there prepare to the fact that: 1 - People getting promoted on random basis. 2 - Pay is low. 3 - Management is terrible. 4 - HR are the worst incompetent people you will ever see. 5 - Leads are incredibly incompetent. 6 - Supervisors will give you absolutely opposite notes. 7 - People will be talking about you behind your back. 8 - Senior artists will do the most simple tasks while Juniors will be given the most complex. 9 - Quality of work they do is very low. 10 - Did I mention that everybody is incompetent? - prepare for that. 11 - Maya and renderman are too old and outdated. 12 - There is no communication between departments. 13 - They somehow can screw up your pay, and you will spend months proving they owe you. 14 - Their hardware is old and outdated. 15 - Their farm (which is one of the biggest in the world) is always too busy for your tasks because of the incompetence of lightning department.

Pros

- Good for juniors and people who just start their career in CGI - No stress, no push, never felt overwhelmed - If you manage to find yourself in their production pipeline, you can get promoted very fast. People after 2 years in MPC can become leads, this usually does not happen in other companies - 50% of the pipeline is working - 1.5x payed overtime In general I would recommend it for juniors. I think its a great opportunity for them. You can learn a lot. People are super friendly, always happy to help you. You always have much time to finish your stuff. The deadline is not an issue, because it will always be late. The other group I would recommend is people who are in the industry long enough, but never got promoted and want to go and climb this ladder. This will not be easy, but much easier in MPC then any other big company. I think that after 2 years in MPC (and if you had few years of experience before that), they will ask you to become lead. Ive seen it. Thats great.

Cons

- Bad for mid/senior level. - Not artist friendly - Not very ambitious - 50% of the pipeline is not working - Overtime there is the solution to pipeline problems - Maya focused. Always problems with Houdini licences - Very low pay Mid artists may be very disappointed, especially if you are ambitious. If you dont want to jump into their maya based tools, you will have a bad time :) Usually 3h in a day Im without Houdini licence, doing nothing. So you have to stay OT to finish your job. Very crappy houdini "setups". People tend to just drop a shelf tool, promoting attribs calling that a "tool", never cleaning up the useless stuff. FX pipeline is very buggy, you will do most of your sims locally. Releasing to lighting sometimes takes 25% of your time. So if you like to work in a clean and organized manner, you will have a great problem working there. There is a different mindset there, especially within juniors who started in MPC. They dont know that other compenies dont work like MPC. And even when you ask people noone is a junior. Everyone is already a mid. And every mid is a senior. Im talking about their vision on who they are. So when an MPC person leaves the company, he/she will have a very bad time when he/she hits the reality.
