Pros

Huge variety of projects, international travel, brilliant people, wide range of technologies, pretty good job stability, flextime, very flexible work environment, excellent training (on the job as well as classroom).

Cons

Cheap, pays at low end of market for all positions. Years ago when there was little high-tech in Vancouver, MDA got the top students of every CPSC and EE and Physics grad class. Now they all have much higher-paying options.

Pros

Wonderful smart creative people in the working ranks.

Cons

A sycophantic culture where a bunch of yes men surround an out of touch CEO. These yes men have all been bred to follow detailed instructions and are not expected or allowed to think for themselves. Those senior managers that do try to think are cut off from the pack and left isolated as punishment. Understanding that it is a business, all decisions are made only with regard to the balance sheet. Company policy is that it is preferable to replace a departed worker at a higher salary than it is to pay good existing employees close to market rates. The HR department is toothless and cowed by the CEO. Micro-management by the CEO has recently become so severe that many of his senior managers have literally given up. Strategic growth by acquisition is a very good strategy and working well for the most part. However, executive management is "gutting" the existing business by reducing costs to the point where employees are doing the jobs of 2-3 people on wages that are in most cases 20-30% below industry norms. This is leading to the departure of the company's talent. It has certainly killed innovation within HQ. A lack of funding has also killed the R&D department. The CEO has created a culture of distrust where none of the senior executives communicate and the hoarding of information has become the norm. This leads to very negative consequences for the business and a very inefficient operation where work is always duplicated. The executive management all appear to dislike each other and work in isolation. This is a company that requires a major internal overhaul before it goes off a cliff. Despite the rising stock price, the board of directors should take notice of these internal goings on before it is irreversible.
