Pros

Big pro for many is no expectation of unpaid overtime. There seems to a company-wide culture (at the Richmond site at least) of recognizing all hours worked as either flextime or overtime. But only straight time, no overtime rates. My own direct management is mostly very reasonable and pleasant to work for. Generally positive work environment.

Cons

A lot of concern among long-time employees about the future of the company and especially the Richmond site ever since a new CEO was hired based in the USA and decided to move corporate execs into a separate office in downtown Vancouver. Reputation for training people but no budget for training in my group during the time I've been here. Salaries are generally on the low end for GVRD....which may be normal for a site in Richmond by comparison with central Vancouver.

Pros

Benefits, International travels, Interesting industry

Cons

- employees are just numbers and a cost. Forget about any human consideration - managers will lie to you and manipulate you to serve their own interests - you will not be given the means/tools/support to do your job - your job description is a joke: once enrolled, your job isn't actually what you signed for - the HR department (from the top down) is the most incompetent you'll ever deal with. They don't know the employment laws/regulations and will hide information or lie to you - you will NEVER be able to make a decision as every single thing has to be approved by dozens of people first and at the end, your division''s manager will have the last word... you better suggest your ideas on their good days! But even that doesn't guarantee they'll even be considered. - salary is miles away from what's offered on the market. - you will only be let go with a working notice (eh, if we can save $10, why not? Even if we make billions a year...) - don't even dare ask questions about the company's compliance with the employment regulations... The list goes on and on...
