Pros
- Marcus, the CEO, is really smart and he is really supportive to his team. The company is growing bigger but he will always make time if you ask for it. If you do well (even if you are not making the super huge impact to the company), he'll compliment and appreciate all the tiny bits of your work. You'll feel greatly appreciated working with Marcus.
- Team members are working really fast with the "let's get it done now" attitude. They are open-minded, friendly, and super smart.
- Senior managers always encourage us to try new things and to involve in projects we are interested in - hence when we find out what we truly excel at, we can shift to other division we want.
- As Bitcoin is an 'exciting but controversial' topic (with its legal status still in question in most countries), working in Luno is a bit of challenge as you'll need to work on things differently from when you work with an established corporate. You'll need to learn how to send the right messages across when speaking with regulators, bank managers, etc. When you do marketing, you need to make sure people do not see your company as a random Ponzi scheme promoter, and there are a lot of other things you get to do only when you are in this digital currency world. Challenging eh?
- For team members working out of Cape Town, we'll be able to travel twice a year for cool offsite and team events.
Cons
- When the team grows significantly bigger, members who once worked together can grow distant...sad thing.
- Not being in the mothership (Cape Town) means you'll have more video-call meetings then in-face meetings. Sometimes when it involves the whole Cape Town team in the video, you can hardly understand what joke they are laughing at or what questions they are asking (the mic is too far from the person who asked, and it's a bit of hassle to move webcam/mic to that person). Imagine they laughing and you can only smile awkwardly... But the Cape Town team always improves to make it better. :)
