Sucks the life out of you

Pros

There is an undeniable thrill at the thought of working for Lockheed Martin, one of the big folks in the space industry. The people are generally really good people. The company--depending upon WHICH division you work for--can treat their people poorly. They are very flexible for work hours which is wonderful and they don't generally micromanage, another major plus. But overall, within a small number of years working here, the life will be sucked out of you, as will your love and admiration of NASA.

Cons

Their salary rating is a joke. They have a comp ratio system. Let's say your pay range for your job title is 50,000 - 70,000. If you are making near the 50k, you 'compensation ratio' is low, so you'll get a raise every year, usually. If you are at 60k then you're at the middle of your pay range and your comp ratio is 1, therefore, unless you're absolutely effing spectacular, your raise is zero. So how is this the middle of the 'payrange' when you pretty much can't get past the halfway point. And that includes no cost of living increase so you actually end up making less...

Good benefits, generous time off, and flexible work schedules; easy to move around the company if you are willing to relocate

Cons

Pay is often lower than competitors; performance management review system is rigged and only reflect what your manager things; lots of older generation workers not open to new ideas; layoffs

Going downhill

Pros

They had long term contracts and cant hire H-1B visas, they needed US citizens with clearance so didn't have to worry about competing with really low wages and long hours, and bad conditions. They had a company retirement but stopped it for new employees in 2006 but if you were there prior you still get it. Starting salaries are good but only for a few years when your not earning that much.

Cons

layoffs every year so you don't ask for raises or promotions, just lucky to keep your job. 40 billion pension deficit even though they stopped pension so they want most people with the pension to leave or they lay them off. Don't give raises and when they do they are nothing, have to ask senior engineers and IPTs to write a good letter of input to reviews so people just avoid you so they don't have to. Very petty and childish behavior competing to see who gets the raise and who doesn't, its every man for himself not teamwork. Manager assigns what you work on and then says you don't get a raise because of what project you were on when hes the one assigning the project.
