A Great Place to Grow

Pros

Lockheed is one of those companies that realizes its bottom line is directly related to its greatest asset: the people. Besides offering numerous opportunities/avenues for vertical and lateral movement, they also invest heavily in L&D (Learning & Development). They are extremely diligent in recognizing/rewarding excellent performance. And their commitment to diversity is second to none in my book. The only possible obstacle to professional (and personal) growth at Lockheed Martin is yourself!

Cons

As a government contractor, the emphasis of dotting all i's and crossing all t's three times over is a bit overbearing. I had to keep track of my time in no less than FOUR different tools. It got to be a real drag. Also, LM's performance evaluation system is extremely rigorous, time-consuming, and tedious. If strict protocol is not your thing, government contracting may not be for you.

Pros

The company undertakes some of the biggest engineering challenges know to the world. They provide great resources to get these tasks done and are very helping for providing for continuing education. The salary is very good relative to competitors along with their benefits package.

Cons

The amount of security and bureaucratic within the company. The security is understandable since they are government contractors. Since the company is huge, some things take longer than should and something you get lost in the crowd.

Pros

Diverse enviornment. Lots of opportunites for work in different business units. Extremely ethical and will not tolerate harassment or violence.

Cons

It appears that LM is top heavy with Baby Boomers getting ready for retirement and therefore there are no advancement opportunites. Most, if not all, career opportunities are for the younger 20 -30 year old folks. If you don't have a college degree, don't bother to apply. HR is a tool of managment and will protect the company at all costs.
