Pros

In my light experience within LM I have been treated fairly, I feel like most work I do is valuable. It also seems to be a good place to work, when a program gets cut, upper management really attempts to facilitate moving employees instead of laying them all off.

Cons

The salaries are not as good as some of the private companies, but the job security is higher than private companies. They also have downsized their masters reimbursement programs a bit.

Pros

Large, Stable company. Lots of opportunities to move around the company. Excellent benefits packages, including a great tuition reimbursement program for engineers. Lots of resources available within the company for training and self education. Impressive projects, especially within the Aeronautics unit (i.e. Joint Strike Fighter, F-22, etc)

Cons

Mediocre pay compared to other competitors or similar corporations. Hard to move up rapidly within the organization. Slow-paced, low stress work environment. (I knew a new hire who had no real work for several months)

Pros

Lockheed has some of the best benefits of any company around. They offer an array of health care plans, a fantastic 401k program, tuition reimbursement, tons of discounts at local retailers, etc. Also, for the most part, scheduling is extremely flexible. You have to work a specified number of hours, but you can essentially work them whenever you want. Pay was good, slightly above average.

Cons

I had two major problems with Lockheed - the first is the pace of the work. Everything is EXTREMELY slow. This is an unfortunate problem due to th nature of the work. There are a lot of hoops to jump through when working on projects for the DoD. This leads to a lot of downtime. The other problem is the advancement system. It is very union-like. While you can get a little better annual raise base on your performnce, you aren't going to be promoted until you've been waiting around long enough.
