Pros

On paper it is a great place to work. They pitch ideas about work life balance, career advancement, leadership development, flex time, benefits that fit todays changing workplace and oppertunities for growth and inward mobility. Who you work for and with is how you survive. If you are on a good project with good people you will probably love your job there.

Cons

Usually, these benefits mentioned above are applicable when it helps the company, not so much when you need to use them. Often flex time is used so you can attend meetings at 4pm on Fridays or work Saturday nights without compensation, but if you utilize flextime to come in an hour late or leave an hour early, you usually will be questioned about where you are. Additionally, no matter how much they talk about work/life balance it doesnt apply unless you are inbetween projects. If you are working on something "high impact" which is more and more these days, you will be working substantial overtime w/ or w/o compensation and have no vacation rules implemented by management. There is at least one project a year that prevents people fromtaking holidays off. One of the other things that really irks me is that there is no sick time. Technically you can use any unpaid overtime as sick time, however you will probably be looked at negatively for doing so. Even individuals with a couple hundred hours of unpaid overtime will be told to limit their use of the time for sickness. Lastly the Performance Management system is terrible. Lower level employees get rated very mediocre on average because there is a bell curve for the whole department that needs to be met. As someone who is currently striving to improve my profession, skills and projects, I often mind myself discouraged and stunted.

Pros

They really have created and propogated a great approach to management, where the managers are held responsible for maintaining a good work environment rather than a territorial "ownership" of the employees. And the work is challenging and interesting, moreso than other places that I've worked. A great place to work if you really want to do things. Compensation seems not only competitive but at the high end, from what I've seen. I'm sure that there are pockets in such a large organization where some of this doesn't hold, but I've been around (18 years experience at 9 different prime contractor sites) and I am very impressed with how ethical and how well-run Lockheed Martin is in general. Also their commitment to work-life balance - flexibility in work hours - is as real as it gets, and makes a big difference to me personally.

Cons

The TS&S work and location are a bit removed from the rest of the company. I hate to sound like a shill, but I really can't think of much negative to say about Lockheed Martin itself as opposed to negative aspects of particular jobs that don''t distinguish LM from other employers. Perhaps it is true that some of the workspaces - the buildings themselves and the work areas - seem cold and impersonal. At some places window offices are rare and most employees aren't near sunlight. If you're into your work that's not so much an issue, if not I guess it's a drag sometimes.

Good internship experience

Pros

All workers are treated with respect, and learning is emphasized. I developed close relationships to my coworkers and upper management. Management is always looking for talent, and if you prove yourself as an intern they will offer you a full0time employment opportunity. Workplace is not very stressful for interns. You have to take initiative because you won't have set tasks from time to time.

Cons

LMCO is a very big matrix organization, so communication from leadership to lower level employees is not efficient.
