Pros

Best employer in Orlando. Good pay, 3 weeks vacation starting, every other Friday off. Good place for starting engineer's career. Might want to move on after some experience, though, because LM is an old traditional DoD contractor that values longevity over performance. If you've done the same job for 10 years, that qualifies you for promotion, regardless of how good/bad you performed. Very risk-averse company - the motto is "never do anything that you haven't done before". Also, the old traditional way of making money in DoD contracts still applies. (1) Lowball the bid to win the contract; (2) Overrun cost and miss delivery schedule; (3) Get beat up by Govt for (2); (4) Panic and throw people and resources at the program to recover (with the Govt providing additional funding to facilitate this, which was kinda the objective all along); (5) Deliver product at a major loss to company (since you underbid in (1)); (6) Make up for (5) by getting Govt to fund massive logistics/support/repair contract to keep product working in field. (7) Repeat above steps ad infinitum.

Cons

Pay/promotion based on seniority rather than performance-based.

Pros

Strong company. Mostly former military. Mostly good people to work with. High technology is very interesting. Serving the military is helping them serve the country. Company has amazing history. Administrative support is excellent when called upon. Annual Christmas bonus is a nice shirt with a company logo. Company gives you lots leeway in how the job gets done as long as it gets done. Relocation package is good if you get one. Fitness reimbursment is good. Lots of online resources and company discount programs.

Cons

Not much contact with management or performance feedback. Annual salary increases are below industry standard. Benefits are good but average. External or internal learning is not encouraged beyond manditory annual training. The tuition reimbursment package is limited and hard to apply for. Paid family leave for having a baby is limited to available vacation time. Innovation, efficiency, and money-saving measures are appretiated and duplicated but not requested, encouraged, or rewarded.

Pros

Stability and flextime. I also like the fact that we are serving the united states of America. Some of the programs and projects are really cool. Lockheed Martin is involved with the space shuttle, missiles, war helicopters, fighter jets, radar systems, satellites, army vehicles, and other cutting edge technologies. Lockheed Martin is always thinking about other areas (or white space) to go in to help make the company more stable and diverse. Overall Lockheed Martin is a great company to work for!

Cons

the work at times can be boring because the programs are so massive that it takes so many people to work on it.
